Prime Minister Kurti Lays Foundation Stone of Lower Secondary School in Ponoshec, Gjakova

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, laid the foundation stone of the Lower Secondary School in the village of Ponoshec, Municipality of Gjakova, an investment of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI).

According to Prime Minister Kurti, the financial value of this project is EUR 1.2 million, but the real value for the new generations that will be educated here cannot be calculated; it is immeasurable.

In addition to scientific knowledge, the school also cultivates values, to become a formative part of our children and hope for our Republic. This is the best investment for them and for the future of our country, underlined Prime Minister Kurti at the ceremony.

“Last week, we laid the foundation stone for the construction of the kindergarten in Miresh of Gjilan, while today we are in Ponoshec of Gjakova, so close to Albania. We are working on the construction of new school facilities, kindergartens, adaptation of existing spaces and improvement of teaching conditions and tools,” added Kurti.

This school has an area of 2,800 square meters. It is designed with two floors, 8 classrooms, an auxiliary recess space for preschoolers, a canteen with a kitchen, a computer room, a reading room with a library, as well as a natural science laboratory with a cabinet.

Prime Minister Kurti reiterated that the Government remains committed to new projects like this one. By the end of the year, kindergartens will be opened in Prizren and Suhareka, meanwhile, as part of these works for the construction and adaptation of facilities, kindergartens will also be opened in Junik, Skenderaj, Obiliq, Peja, Prishtina, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Shtime and Malisheva.

The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, the Mayor of Gjakova, Ardian Gjini, the Deputy Minister Agon Dobruna, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Education, Ardian Gola, MPs Agon Batusha and Fridon Lala, as well as representatives of Ponoshec village.

Dear residents of Ponoshec village,

It is really an immense pleasure that we are meeting here together today and laying the foundations of a new school. We came here straight from the award ceremony for some of our best students, winners of local and international competitions in mathematics and physics, while from here we will continue to Rezina, where we will lay the foundation stone of a kindergarten.

Last week, we laid the foundation stone for the construction of the kindergarten in Miresh of Gjilan, while today we are in Ponoshec of Gjakova, so close to Albania.

We are working on the construction of new school facilities, kindergartens, adaptation of existing spaces and improvement of teaching conditions and tools.
