The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted in a meeting the non-resident ambassador of Latvia for Kosovo, Elita Kuzma.

First, the prime minister expressed his congratulations on Latvia’s Independence Day that was celebrated last month, as well as on the recent formation of the new government.

He underlined his gratitude for the support and signing of the joint declaration for Kosovo by the Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Commissions of different countries, including the chairperson Rihard Kols from Latvia, which mentions the need for an equal and proportional approach between the parties in the dialogue process, the focus in the stability and security of the region, as well as the request for the removal of punitive measures against Kosovo.

Further, it was discussed about recent developments, with special emphasis on Serbia’s destructive approach to dialogue, as well as the terrorist attack and act of aggression in Banjska. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the implications for the Baltic countries and the Western Balkan region were also mentioned, where the prime minister emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo has strongly condemned Russian aggression from the beginning.

Talking about bilateral relations, the strengthening of cooperation through the intensification of bilateral communication for various initiatives aimed at bringing our two countries closer to each other was emphasized. On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti extended an invitation to the new Prime Minister Evika Silina for an official visit to Kosovo.

Our cooperation covers different spheres, from the field of education and support from the “Riga Graduate School of Law” (RGSL) for students from Kosovo, to the field of security, where the Prime Minister singled out the cooperation of the Kosovo Police with the Latvian contingent of KFOR.

Prime Minister Kurti appreciated the role of Latvia in the state building processes of Kosovo and the support of the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our country. Among them, membership in the Council of Europe and other international organizations as well as the visa liberalization process.

Ambassador Kuzma congratulated the Prime Minister and the people of Kosovo for the reforms and progress achieved by our country, as well as for the liberalization of visas, which will come into effect on January 1.
