The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met the deputy of the National Council of Switzerland, Islam Aliaj, with whom he discussed the possibilities of cooperation for the protection and realization of the rights of persons with disabilities.
Prime Minister Kurti said that he is proud of Mr. Aliaj’s achievements. Wishing him success in all his commitments, the Prime Minister offered him full support in the common cause of equal opportunities for all.
Deputy Aliaj told about his commitment to the cause for the rights of persons with disabilities. He expressed his willingness to contribute to Kosovo as well.
Prime Minister Kurti spoke about the Government’s commitment to creating suitable conditions and inclusiveness in all areas of life for persons with disabilities. He mentioned one of the decisions of the first year of government, which was the announcement of 2022 “Year of Persons with Disabilities”. As he emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and equality in education, he singled out the employment of 250 assistants for children with special needs in schools, and plans for the employment of 500 more.
Reiterating the Government’s commitment to fulfilling all obligations, the approval of the Administrative Instruction for the List of types and assistive devices that are provided free of charge to paraplegic and quadriplegic persons, in addition to the allocation of funds for drugs that are provided free of charge from the essential list, was approved.
In addition to increasing support for the Kosovo Paralympic Committee and the Sports Federation for the Blind, special support for participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games was also strengthened, where the Republic of Kosovo will mark the first historic participation in these games.
Regarding plans for the future, the commitment of the Prime Minister’s Office in cooperation with the European Union for the drafting of the Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for 2024-2029 was emphasized.
