The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today held a conversation with students who are beneficiaries of the scholarship for the year 2023-2024 for studies outside Kosovo through the schemes: Chevening (United Kingdom), Young Cells (European Union), DAAD (Germany) and Turkiye Burslari (Turkey).

In this conversation, Prime Minister Kurti first responded to the students’ interest in various issues, such as the inclusion of young people in the private sector, inclusion in the labor market, the process after visa liberalization for Kosovo by the EU, the process of general reforms, migration, the connection of education with economy and energy.

Speaking about the public and private sectors, the Prime Minister mentioned the government’s measures and programs that target the employment of young people, such as the “Government Internship” program, through which about 250 young people have been engaged in public institutions as paid interns for a six-month period, or the SuperPuna platform, thanks to which more than 5,000 young people aged 18-25 years have found employment, to whom the government subsidizes 264 of their monthly salary. He also underlined the fact that the Youth Guarantee Action Plan is currently being drafted, which guarantees that every young person will be engaged in education, training or work.

In this conversation with the students, the prime minister also spoke about the general reforms made in his government, where he singled out the connection between the education system and the country’s economy. As a result of the prioritization of dual education and professional training from this new school year, dual education will expand many times over last year, finding application in 21 schools of 13 municipalities in 12 different profiles: cook, waiter, hairdresser, mason , tailor, auto mechanic, metal worker, woodworker, heating and air conditioning installer, electrician, wholesale and retail and beautician. In addition, public higher education has become free, while special attention has also been given to financial support for distinguished students and in deficit fields, when until now about 4 thousand students benefited from scholarships for studies in the country and abroad, including: 1,365 scholarships for women and girl students in STEM fields, 500 scholarships for non-majority communities.

They also talked about the energy sector, about the government’s approach and its actions towards the energy transition, the increase in production capacities, but also about the current measures aimed at energy efficiency, through which on the one hand energy consumption is reduced, on the other hand costs for both citizens and the state budget are reduced in relation to the import of electricity from abroad.

The Prime Minister thanked them for this welcome and for the sincere conversation, and wished them success during their studies, reminding them of the importance of citizen activation and contribution to the community.
