The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti and the Ambassador of Kosovo to Germany, Faruk Ajeti, had a working breakfast today at the Bertelsmann Foundation, with important personalities and researchers, among them their member of the German Bundestag from among the social democrats, Frank Schwabe, the head of the European Stability Initiative (ESI), Gerald Knaus and the executive director of the foundation, Daniela Schwarzer.

Recalling the history of the 90s and the journey of many countries towards Euro-Atlantic integration and the expansion of the EU, NATO and the Council of Europe, in his speech, Prime Minister Kurti underlined our goal for membership in these organizations and the historical importance and momentum of Kosovo’s relations with Germany and European democratic states.

“We took the first step in 2008, when Kosovo declared independence and most of the democracies in Europe recognized us. The second step is about joining the institutions that are the pillars of democratic Europe. We want to join NATO as a security umbrella for our continent. We want to join the European Union as the most important project and process of peace and prosperity. But the first step we have to do now is to join the first club of European democracies, i created exactly this month 75 years ago in London: the Council of Europe”, said Prime Minister Kurti.

He added that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to respecting common values, human rights, the rule of law and democracy. He called on German officials to continue supporting Kosovo even in the last phase of voting and achieving full membership in this organization.

Prime Minister Kurti said that the acceptance of Kosovo as the 47th member of the Council of Europe on its 75th anniversary this year is a historical progress, for Kosovo and its citizens, for the region and for the entire Council of Europe, where all citizens will benefit, especially the minorities in our country.

In conclusion, the prime minister thanked the Bertelsmann Foundation for their hospitality, contribution and interest, singling out the politicians who already support us so much in Germany and Europe.
