This morning, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, the Deputy Ministers, Hysen Durmishi and Jeton Raka, and deputies of the Assembly of the Republic, started by watching from close to work on the “Extension of the M2 National Road” Project, on the Pristina – Mitrovica road.
On the occasion of the start of these works in the Lumi i Madh segment, which has a length of 9.78 km, Prime Minister Kurti appreciated the high intensity of the work.

“This part is known to have a very high traffic density and it is good news for all the citizens of Pristina, Mitrovica, but even wider than that, since this becomes part of much bigger and wider connections regional”, he said.

After fulfilling all the obligations related to the payments of expropriated properties for the needs of the project, as Minister Aliu also said, the construction works of the segment which connects the corridors and highways, include the expansion of the existing road by transforming it from a two-lane road lanes on a road with two separate directions, each with two lanes 3.75 meters wide, and auxiliary lanes on both sides with a width of 2 meters, as well as other infrastructure facilities and structures.
“We are extremely interested in having supervision, having quality work and having work done within the deadline. We will first pay attention to the segment up to Vushtrri, which is responsible for solving the traffic problem as soon as possible, we will respect the standards and specifications required by the project”, Minister Aliu continued.

With a contract value of 25 million euros, this project is financed by borrowing from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OPEC Fund) in co-financing with the Saudi Fund for Development (Saudi Fund for Development SFD).

“Now with our Government, we have many preparations, detailed plans. Therefore, the works are regular according to the procedures, according to the law, with supervision, and at a speed where our commitment, our dedication, but also the supervision of these companies as economic operators who implement the works, will certainly not be missing”, Prime Minister Kurti concluded.

For this project, the economic operator is the consortium “JV HYDROSTROY JSC SOFIA & ESKAVATORI LLC” from Bulgaria and Kosovo. Also, the company “IC Consulenten” from Austria has been engaged in the supervision of the works in this segment, performing the role of the independent engineer for the supervision of the execution of the works.

This road is part of the TEN-T network, Route 6A that connects Corridor VIII in North Macedonia (Skopje) through Pristina with Route 4 in the eastern part of Montenegro.

Prime Minister Kurti’s statement to the media:

We are located here in the Lumi i Madh segment, Gojbulë, on the M2 Prishtina-Mitrovica National Road, which is starting work with great intensity, after everything has been completed regarding the expropriations that have dragged us for so long.

I am here with the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Ali, with the deputy, Hysen Durmish, and with other colleagues, on the occasion of the start of these works in this nine kilometer and 780 meter long segment, with what in the case of borrowing, financing was provided by the OPEC development fund and the Saudi Development Fund.

This part is known to have a very high traffic density and it is good news for all the citizens of Pristina, Mitrovica, but even wider than that, since this becomes part of much bigger and wider connections regional for what Minister Aliu will explain better, but of course it is a good day.

The company from Kosovo, the company from Bulgaria, work together, while being supervised by a company from Austria. Therefore, to all the citizens of the Republic, not only of this area here, congratulations and we will try to make the works go well, well and quickly.

So, as the Minister said, in the past there were weak plans, little preparations and long delays. Now with our Government, we have many preparations, detailed plans. Therefore, the works are regular according to the procedures, according to the law with supervision, and with speed where our commitment, our dedication, but also the supervision of these companies as economic operators who implement the works will certainly not be missing. From a road that had two lanes, we will now have a national road, with two directions, each with two lanes, and in addition to the lane being 3 meters and 75 cm, there will also be an auxiliary lane on the side which is 2 meters. So, from a road with only two lanes, it is going in two directions, each with two lanes and also with additional lanes on the auxiliary side.
