The excavations carried out within these three weeks, at the location in Lower Prekaz, have resulted in the finding and exhumation of the mortal remains (bones) of some victims, who could potentially be on the List of Missing Persons.

The excavations at the location in Lower Prekaz were carried out in accordance with the order of the Basic Court of Pristina, the Special Department, after a detailed review of all data and a series of inter-institutional consultative meetings between the Governmental Commission for Missing Persons, units of the Police Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, the forensic experts of the Institute of Forensic Medicine with the support of EULEX experts, based on the recommendations of the Analytical Report prepared by the ICRC.

The exhumed remains will be sent for the necessary forensic examinations and identification through scientific DNA analysis. According to the first examinations, it may be about the bones of at least six (6) persons, but to confirm the number and identity of the exhumed individuals, the completion of all procedures by the relevant institutions is necessary, which will be followed by informing family members and the public.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to continuing its commitment and work, giving priority to clarifying the fate of those forcibly disappeared during the war, to end the 24-year anxiety of waiting for family members to know the whereabouts of their most loved ones.
