Prishtina, 4 September, 2023

The first Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, hosted the only Albanian deputy from the Parliament of Serbia, Mr. Shaip Kamberi, to discuss the difficult and discriminatory position that Albanians experience in the Presheva Valley.

Instead of creating the necessary institutional space to guarantee the collective rights of Albanians, Serbia is generating obstacles and difficulties for them, limiting them in this way because of their ethnicity.

Deputy Kamberi presented 4 proposals aimed at creating legal mechanisms for the protection of the rights and freedoms of minorities. However, the Parliament of Serbia refuses to address them, leaving them off the agenda.

The proposals include the amendment of the Law on the free use of national symbols by minorities, the Law on the protection of the rights and freedoms of minorities, the Law on the territorial organization of courts and the amendment of the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure.

The Government of Kosovo remains committed to protecting the rights of the Albanian minority in Serbia and taking steps to address the violations of the rights of Albanians in the Presheva Valley.

Also, we remain fully engaged in solving the licensing issue of Albanian doctors from the Presheva Valley, who work in Kosovo.
