Prime Minister Kurti hosted today the Nobel laureate, Dan Shechtman

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today welcomed the winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, Dan Shechtman, who was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Kosovo in Austria, Mr. David Ungar-Klein.

Prime Minister Kurti announced Mr. Shechtman for democratic progress, the government’s achievements and priorities, for pilot programs within the dual education system that have begun to be implemented this academic year, for investing in STEM fields and supporting girls and women in this field through scholarships. He also announced about today’s conference for the presentation of the Sovereign Fund and about the vision that this fund has for public enterprises, which after many years of mismanagement have begun to revive and be profitable.

In this meeting, special emphasis was placed on the importance of education for the development of the country, especially science in early education, technology and entrepreneurship in these fields.
Mr. Schectman shared with Prime Minister Kurti his professional and academic experience as well as the models applied in Israel for institutional support for entrepreneurs in the field of technology and start-ups.

Dan Schechtman is currently visiting Kosovo. He has held several lectures in the country, one of them at the National Library of Kosovo with the title “Why in Kosovar universities students should learn about technology, and why children in kindergarten should learn about science”.

In 2011, Professor Schechtman won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of quasicrystals.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, Luan Dalipi, the professor of the University of Pristina, Sefer Avdiaj and the advisor to the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arrita Gola.
