The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited the “Archaeology of a Portrait” exhibition at the Prishtina Prison Museum on Tuesday afternoon.
Prime Minister Kurti said that, alongside the faces of former political prisoners, the exhibition brings their history and experiences to the fore, thus making the “Prison of the Ideal” a place for reflecting on the past and learning for younger generations.
Among the portraits displayed are those of the symbol of resistance, Adem Demaçi, intellectual and professor Ukshin Hoti, and many others who were imprisoned and sentenced simply because they were Albanian and worked for the rights of their people and the good of our nation.
The exhibition, which will remain open until 3 September, is a collective initiative by a group of artists exploring the portrait, memory, suffering and resistance, as well as their relationship and tension with the prisoners. It also highlights the prisoners’ loss of their relationship with their own image as a result of the denial of their freedom, namely confinement and isolation in a space without mirrors.
