Today, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited the regulation station in the village of Mihaliq, Municipality of Vushtrri, which was constructed as part of the Ibër-Lepenc Main Canal Rehabilitation Project and was inaugurated last year.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti highlighted that the regulation station alone cost nearly €2.1 million, while the total value of the canal rehabilitation project amounts to €18 million, of which €15 million was financed through a loan and €3 million from the enterprise’s own funds.
“The Regulation Station, or ‘buffer’, is a balancing reservoir for the canal with the following specifications: a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic meters, a length of 800 meters, a width of 12 meters, and a depth of 4 meters. It provides an emergency water supply for up to 24 hours to KEK’s thermal power plants or to the water treatment plant in Shkabaj, operated by the Prishtina Regional Water Company, which supplies water to parts of Prishtina, Obiliq, Fushë Kosovë and Drenas,” said Acting Prime Minister Kurti.

We are here in Mihaliq, in the Municipality of Vushtrri, visiting the regulation station, which was built as part of the rehabilitation of the Ibër-Lepenc Canal, a project financed through a World Bank loan and the enterprise’s own budget.
The regulation station alone cost approximately €2.1 million. The total project is valued at €18 million, of which €15 million was financed through a loan and €3 million from the enterprise’s own resources.
It was inaugurated on 29 January 2025 by the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, together with the chief executive officers of the three enterprises: Ibër-Lepenc, the Prishtina Regional Water Company (RWC Prishtina), and KEK.
The Regulation Station, or buffer, is a balancing reservoir for the canal with the following specifications: it has a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic meters, a length of 800 meters, a width of 12 meters, and a depth of 4 meters.
It enables the provision of an emergency water supply for up to 24 hours to KEK’s thermal power plants or to the Shkabaj Water Treatment Plant, operated by the Prishtina Regional Water Company, which supplies water to parts of Prishtina, Obiliq, Fushë Kosovë and Drenas.
The station can also be used to facilitate urgent repairs and interventions during emergency situations or in the event of water turbidity affecting the water supply system, all without interrupting services to consumers.
Prior to the construction of the regulation station, maintenance of the canal was impossible without suspending the water supply. The canal extends 49 kilometres, from Ujman Lake to Prishtina.
I would like to thank the Ministry, Ibër-Lepenc, and all the workers whose efforts have enabled us to reach this point, providing a service to all citizens without distinction and safeguarding a matter of both public and vital importance—our water supply.
