New York, 22 September, 2026
During his visit to New York, United States of America, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga.
Full statement by Prime Minister Kurti:
During my stay in New York for the UN General Assembly, I also met today with World Bank President Mr. Ajay Banga.
We discussed Kosovo’s remarkable progress in recent years, including its removal from the list of fragile and conflict-affected states, its transition from a recipient to a donor for the International Development Association, and its sustained economic growth.
I emphasized that for the upcoming term—following the reduction of unemployment from 26% to 10%—the focus will be on creating higher-quality, better-paying jobs, as well as increasing the participation of youth and women in the labor market. I also highlighted the need to channel the remittances and savings of our diaspora toward productive economic sectors.
For his part, President Banga presented his plan to support member states in creating higher-quality jobs across sectors such as construction, productive agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and manufacturing.
