During his visit to New York as part of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Albin Kurti met with U.S. Congressman George Latimer.
Full statement by Prime Minister Kurti:
It was a pleasure to meet in New York with Congressman George Latimer, a strong and important voice in support of Kosovo, particularly for our country’s membership in NATO.
We discussed economic development, progress in security, strengthening our international standing, and the strong partnership between Kosovo and the United States of America, including cooperation in defence and development. I reiterated our position that Camp Bondsteel should be transformed into a permanent U.S. military base, in the interest of peace, stability and long-term security in the region.
We discussed persons forcibly disappeared during the last war, mass graves, the importance of declassifying documentation and opening Serbia’s archives, as well as the need for justice for the crimes committed. As in our other meetings, we also discussed discrimination against and violations of the rights of Albanians in the Presheva Valley.
On the eve of the third anniversary of the paramilitary terrorist attack in Banjska, we once again raised the issue of Milan Radoičić and the need for him and the other perpetrators to face justice in the Republic of Kosovo.
