Pristina, 6 October, 20026
Dear journalists,
Dear citizens,
Good to meet again today.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo rejected our offer to support Professor Bekim Sejdiu; I believe that had they responded positively, Professor Bekimi would have returned. Besides him, we naturally have two other names—Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushiti—whom we presented earlier this year as presidential candidates, and who remain options should there be interest from the opposition.
Distinguished journalists,
Our latest proposal is this: since I have been unable to meet with him, let the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, come forward publicly tonight and pledge that the entire Democratic Party of Kosovo Parliamentary Group will participate in the vote for the President. Following that pledge, we will immediately vote for the second reading of the bill, provided they do not consider the waiver of the 72-hour interval between the two readings to be an issue.
In other words, we vote for the Special Court Draft Law first, and then—tonight—we immediately proceed to the vote for the President: either Glauk or Feride.
So, a single Assembly session tonight, with two agenda items. The vote on the Draft Law for the Special Court in the second reading and the election of the new President of the Republic. Following what I have said, I expect PDK Chairman Bedri Hamza—whom I have been unable to meet—to come forward publicly, just as I have, and state that the Democratic Party of Kosovo’s Parliamentary Group will all vote tonight on the President (whether for Glauk or Feride)—casting votes FOR, AGAINST, or ABSTAINING. Once he makes such a declaration, we will convene the session tonight with 40 signatures, covering two agenda items: the second reading of the Draft Law for the Special Court and the vote for the new President of the Republic.
What do you think?
