Under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the Executive Commission for Health held its third meeting.
In his opening speech, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Kurti, emphasized the importance of the Commission’s joint work in improving the quality of health services in the country.
For this reason, two feasibility studies in the health sector were presented and discussed at today’s meeting. The first study, for the Hospital of Pristina, was prepared by ICME and was presented by the mayor of the Municipality of Pristina, Mr. Perparim Rama and his officials. While, the second study, for ShSKUK, was presented by Mr. Thomas Weismann, a German expert on health economics, with the title “Improving the physical infrastructure of secondary and tertiary health care institutions”.
The Prime Minister informed the Commission that at yesterday’s meeting of the Government, the Administrative Instruction for the licensing of foreign health professionals was approved. The approval of the Directive will have a direct impact on the life and health of citizens, completing the provision of services that are missing or at risk of not being provided. Also, the arrival of expatriate professionals will enable the training and qualification of local professionals to provide these services in the future.
The Prime Minister, however, emphasized that the Directive cannot achieve its goal unless concrete, quick, and continuous steps are taken to ensure its implementation. Therefore, the members of the Commission have agreed that the Ministry of Health and ShSKUK immediately start the necessary steps to plan the bringing of as many specialist doctors as possible from the diaspora to provide services and provide training. The Prime Minister underlined that the implementation of this initiative is an urgent matter and that every day of delay is lost time.
