Pristina, November 30, 2024
In the early hours of this morning, starting at 01:30, under the leadership of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Kosovo was held.
This meeting was convened following the third attack in the last 72 hours, which this time targeted the country’s critical infrastructure – the water supply system and electricity production. Initial indications suggest that this latest attack was orchestrated by the Serbian state, which has the capacity for such criminal and terrorist actions. Elements of the terrorist organizations “Civil Protection” and “Northern Brigade,” along with the criminal leader Millan Radoicic, under the direction of the President and Government of Serbia, are planning and training in Serbia for such professional attacks. It was also highlighted that there is a likely connection with the attacks by aggressive Russia in Ukraine on energy infrastructure this week, which left over one million Ukrainian households without electricity just as winter is approaching.
During the meeting, the Council members discussed the emergency measures that have been taken and are being implemented to mitigate the consequences of the attack and to ensure the security of the critical infrastructure in the country. Concrete steps have been taken to restore the situation to normal, assuring citizens that the supply of water and electricity will be regulated as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the Security Council has approved additional measures to strengthen security around critical facilities and services such as bridges, substations, antennas, lakes, canals, etc. The Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Security Force will be deployed in the field for this purpose. Inter-institutional and international cooperation has also been intensified to prevent similar attacks in the future.
Prime Minister Kurti stated: “Our state is determined and prepared to protect its citizens and critical infrastructure. We will not tolerate such acts aimed at destabilizing Kosovo and threatening peace and democratic functioning. The situation is being brought under control, moving towards normalization. We call on all international actors to condemn this attack, which has caused us significant damage.”
The institutions of Kosovo remain fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens and ensuring that the perpetrators of these illegal acts face justice. We also urge citizens not to fall prey to disinformation and misinterpretations of the hybrid war against our state and people.
