The Joint Accelerating Fund of the Sustainable Development Goals for Kosovo is established

In today’s meeting between the first Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi and the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Kosovo, Arnhild Spence, the creation of the Joint Accelerating Fund of the Sustainable Development Goals for Kosovo. The fund is being established with the aim of advancing the objectives of sustainable development in line with the realization of the 2030 Agenda.

The initial contribution to this fund will be from Kosovo in the amount of 200 thousand euros. The fund can be continuously increased depending on the set priorities and in the service of fulfilling the foreseen objectives, which are related, among others, to the reduction of the poverty rate, the increase of the capacity of renewable energy, the digital transformation, as well as the undertaking of important reforms in the education system. The fund will also accept contributions from donors and partners, while the Government will contribute 20% of the amount to any additional funding from donors.

Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi emphasized the Government’s commitment to the fulfillment of the CSOs and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, with the fund as an additional driving factor and catalyst. “We believe that our commitment to the creation of this Fund will further contribute to the efforts towards the creation of an equal society for all, through the achievement of the objectives for sustainable development which are also reflected in our National Development Strategy “, said Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi during the meeting.

On her part, Mrs. Spence welcomed the Government’s decision to establish this fund together with the initial contribution, adding that its creation proves the joint commitment to address the complex challenges of sustainable development. In conclusion, the parties expressed their readiness for close cooperation, on the way forward towards the realization of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
