Pristina, 24 September, 2023

In honor of the work of Afrim Bunjaku, the policeman killed today by the terrorist attack of criminal groups in the village of Banjskë in Zveçan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti together with members of the government cabinet lit candles in front of the Central Police Station, in Pristina.

The invitation to light candles was answered by many citizens, representatives of institutions, deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo as well as diplomats of partner countries.

Prime Minister Kurti’s complete statement:

I just arrived in front of the Kosovo Police Center station, from the village of Samadrexhë, where we were to offer condolences to the family of the police officer Afrim Bunjaku, and here with the lighting of the candle, we, each of us, add a little light to the great soul of Afrim Bunjaku, who with his bravery and sacrifice illuminated the path of the rule of law in Kosovo, which does not back down before any criminal or terrorist.

We met his wife Lumnije, and his three children, we met the cousins, the aunt, we met extended relatives, friends and well-wishers, who together with us, with me, with the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, with the Director of Police, with colleagues from Afrim, we shared the pain and sorrow for this police officer that Kosovo lost today, as it gained more law, more constitutionality, more justice, more security, precisely because of the contribution and sacrifice of Afrim Bunjaku.

On this occasion, I thank all the citizens who have come here tonight to pay their respects and to show that we hold Afrim close to our hearts, and that the path of the rule of law, the path of constitutionalism, and dealing with criminals and terrorists is a path which will be followed by each of us and all together until the final separation of the state of Kosovo, of our independent Republic.

I also thank all the ambassadors and other diplomatic representatives of friendly countries, who have joined us here tonight to pay tribute to the policeman Afrim Bunjaku, to our hero Afrim Bunjaku.

Glory to Afrim, and we hope that this will be the last on this difficult road for law and justice for citizens and their freedom and rights. Thank you!
