Pristina, 11 March, 2025

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed today at the Government Building the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, for the first time in this role. He congratulated him on his new assignment and wished him success in leading the Alliance in this critical period for European and global security.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude for NATO’s invaluable contribution to maintaining peace and security in Kosovo. He emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo’s aspiration for NATO membership reflects our country’s commitment to the shared values of democracy, the rule of law and security and the willingness to contribute to the further strengthening of the Alliance.

The Prime Minister also thanked Secretary Rutte for the close cooperation between the NATO mission, KFOR, and the Kosovo security institutions, as well as for NATO’s continued support to the Ministry of Defense and the Kosovo Security Force through the advisory mission NALT.

The discussion highlighted the fact that Kosovo organized free and democratic parliamentary elections, with the participation of all non-majority communities. However, the Prime Minister raised concerns about the direct intervention of Serbia, with the support of Russia, against the Serbian community through pressure, blackmail and disinformation. He stressed that the reports of the EU observer mission have evidenced the spread of disinformation by Russian media outlets based in Serbia, such as “RT Balkans” and “Sputnik Srbija”, which have distributed over 60 articles aimed at manipulating the Serbian community in Kosovo.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked the NATO Secretary General for the visit and for his continued support for Kosovo and its citizens, and emphasized Kosovo’s readiness to always be an ally in defense of democratic values.
