The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today met Professor Vjollca Konjufca, a lecturer in the Microbiology Program at the University of Southern Illinois, United States of America.
Appreciating the academic and professional experience of Professor Konjufca, Prime Minister Kurti expressed gratitude for her commitment to help the health sector in Kosovo.
Professor Konjufca thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and expressed her readiness for professional and scientific cooperation.
The meeting discussed the possibilities of further expansion of cooperation in health with an emphasis on research-scientific work. The potential for increased exchanges of knowledge, experience and work culture with professionals from the diaspora was assessed.
It was emphasized that quality education is the most stable basis for prosperity, and that in order to raise the quality and improve educational conditions, the Government has increased the education budget this year as well. Also, the budget for health has been increased by over 100 million euros, while 60 million euros have been allocated for the new list of essential medicine and 6.5 million euros more for medicine for rare diseases.
Talking about immunization, it was emphasized to quintuple the budget for preventive vaccines and to provide important new vaccines, such as HPV, which prevents cervical cancer. Professor Konjufca emphasized how this vaccine has significantly influenced the decrease in the incidence of cancer in the United States.
The Prime Minister wished fruitful scientific discussions in the lecture that will be held tomorrow at the Faculty of Medicine in Pristina, where Professor Konjufca announced that, among other things, she will inform about the possibilities of cooperation between the University of Pristina and the University of Southern Illinois in the USA.
The economist and philanthropist from Ferizaj, Afrim Konjufca, was also present at this joint meeting.
