Prishtina, 15 April 2024
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed today at the Government building for a cordial meeting over 20 activists from 1968 and 1981, former students and political prisoners of the Serbian regime.
As they discussed and recalled the political persecution, the terrible torture, the systematic violence that the regime of Yugoslavia and then Serbia exercised on Albanian activists and the numerous massacres that are marking their 25th anniversary this year, the necessity of documentation was emphasized – in scientific way – of numerous crimes before and during the war, including the torture that Albanian activists have experienced in prisons. In this regard, activists and former political prisoners can play an important role.
The importance of informing the younger generations about the cause followed by political prisoners, the impact of the demonstrations of 1968, 1981, 1989 and 1997, and their role in mobilizing society for liberation and the Republic was also emphasized. In this joint meeting, alongside the Prime Minister was the Director of the Institute for Crimes Committed during the War, Atdhe Hetemi.
