The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated in the decoration of the Tree near the Government building, in celebration of World Autism Day, together with representatives of Autism organizations, parents, teachers and children.
“Today we are organizing and pledging for the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo for the fulfillment of all our obligations for the protection, promotion and implementation of human rights in general, and in particular for the respect of the rights of persons with disabilities limited or with special needs”, said Prime Minister Kurti.
Speaking about the commitment of the Government, the Prime Minister said that in 2022, 100 assistants have been hired in most schools in the country for children with disabilities, while this year another 300 will be hired, including teachers who will take care of people with autism, for children with autism.
Also, the prime minister emphasized the fact that last year we employed 239 people with disabilities, 120 women and 119 men, through measure 1.6 of the Economic Revival Package, and we wish to continue this in the future, encouraging all entrepreneurs in the private sector to employ as many people with disabilities as possible.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Government has undertaken legal initiatives in support of persons with disabilities, such as the Law on Early Childhood Education, which is expected to be approved very soon in the Assembly of the Republic, as well as recently the proposal for amending the Constitution of Kosovo, for the inclusion of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Article 22 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.
He thanked the “Autism” and “Anak” organizations for the cooperation with the institutions so far and for their work.
“We must work together as institutions and as a society to create the best possible conditions for people with disabilities and in this way April 2nd is not only the world day of autism, but we turn it into a daily day of commitment and of our dedication to people with autism who are children of all of us and not only of their families”, said Prime Minister Kurti, in front of those present at today’s activity in the Government yard.
Prime Minister Kurti’s complete speech:
Dear Autism organizations, their representatives, parents, teachers and children, to all of you who have found the time today, so that on April 2 we can join together on International Autism Day.
Today we are organizing and pledging for the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo for the fulfillment of all our obligations for the protection, promotion and implementation of human rights in general, and in particular for respecting the rights of persons with disabilities or with special needs.
In 2022, we hired 100 assistants in most schools in the country for children with disabilities, while this year another 300 will be hired, including teachers who will take care of people with autism, for children with autism.
On this occasion, I would have highlighted two organizations that are collaborating and will continue it, the “Autism” and “Anak” organizations.
As the Government, we have approved the Law on Early Childhood Education, and this is expected to be approved very soon in the Assembly of the Republic, meanwhile, at a recent Government meeting, we have proposed to the Assembly of the Republic, the amendment of the Constitution of Kosovo, for the inclusion of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Article 22 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.
Last year we employed 239 people with disabilities, 120 women and 119 men, and we want to continue this in the future and encourage all entrepreneurs in the private sector to hire as many people with disabilities as possible, because the Government also has measure 1.6, to support disabled people with the idea that for 6 months the salary of a disabled worker will be subsidized with 270 euros per month.
We must work together as institutions and as a society to create the best possible conditions for people with disabilities, and in this way, April 2 is not only the world day of autism, but we turn it into a daily day of commitment and our commitment to people with autism who are children of all of us and not only of their families.
Our love for them is important for them and for us, and I thank you once again for the role, the contribution, the commitment you make, for working patiently with these children to whom we owe our dedication and we also owe them institutional and social attention.
Thank you very much everyone!
