Gjakova, 31 March, 2023

On the 24th anniversary of the forced disappearance of Albion Kumnova and five other men from Gjakova, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited the Kumnova family, where he was received by Mrs. Nesrete Kumnova, leader of the “Mothers’ Calls” association.

In the room filled with mements of her still-missing son, Mother Nesrete recalled March 1999, when a week after NATO began airstrikes against Serbia, Albion, then 21, was taken from his home, along with five other civil relatives. In April 2011, the remains of those taken with Albion were found in Batajnica near Belgrade, and reburied in Gjakova.

Prime Minister Kurti reiterated that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to unraveling the disappearances by force during the war and not to stop seeking justice for all war crimes in Kosovo.

In this visit, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci and the Chairman of the Government Commission for Missing Persons, Andin Hoti.
