The visit of the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to the postal branches in Leposaviq and Zveçan was followed by visits to two social housing units in Shipol and Desi, in Mitrovica.

The Prime Minister saw firsthand the interventions to convert social housing from dilapidated buildings into homes fit for safe, warm, and dignified living.
“It is not enough to just enter social housing buildings and have them lack security and heating. This is now being implemented within the framework of a joint investment with the European Union. It amounts to around €6 million across 25 buildings throughout Kosovo,” said Prime Minister Kurti.

The two buildings in Shipol and Desi, which date back to 2003 and 2005, have been left without proper insulation, efficient windows and adequate heating. Now, thanks to the investment of 381,622 euros for these two facilities, they will be completed before the fall and will change the lives of 39 families and 173 residents of Mitrovica.

In Shipol, the beneficiaries will be 18 families with a total building area that is part of the overall project of 1,130 square meters, while in Desi, the beneficiaries will be 21 families with a total building area that is part of the overall project of about 1,700 square meters.

These renovations are being carried out by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, supported by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, through a 90% grant from the European Union and a 10% contribution from the Municipality of South Mitrovica.
The government continues its commitment to improving the living conditions of hundreds of thousands of citizens and reducing energy costs, while so far we have supported 3,000 families with home insulation and over 40,000 families with efficient equipment and solar panels, while also renovating 125 public buildings, mainly schools and hospitals.

Statement by Prime Minister Kurti during the visit to Desi:

I congratulate you, the ministry, and the fund for this work that you have done, because it is very important that living conditions are dignified.

It is not enough to just enter social housing buildings and have them lack security and heating. This is now being implemented within the framework of a joint investment with the European Union. It amounts to approximately €6 million, across 25 buildings throughout Kosovo.

Here in Desi, Mitrovica, there are 21 families occupying a total of approximately 1,700 m², and I hope that veterans, people with disabilities, social-welfare beneficiaries, and single mothers will enjoy better living conditions—for their families, especially their children—and the overall progress they seek, which we too wish for and are committed to supporting.

So, thank you once again!
