Pristina, 15 May 2025

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received in a meeting the Head of the European Union Election Observation Mission in Kosovo 2025, Ms. Nathalie Loiseau.

During the meeting, Ms. Loiseau submitted to the Prime Minister the final report of the mission on the elections held on 9 February 2025.

Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude for the engagement of the EU Mission in supervising the electoral process and stressed the importance of the report’s recommendations for further improving democratic processes in the country. During the discussion, he raised several important issues related to the electoral process, including:

-the lack of verification by professional investigative journalists of the feasibility of promises made during the election campaign by representatives of political parties, especially by candidates for prime minister, which risk violating the trust of citizens and harming democracy; -the financing of election campaigns of political parties, emphasizing the need for full transparency of funding sources and contributions received during the campaign; and
– prolonging the counting of votes.

The Prime Minister placed particular emphasis on the findings of the Mission on Foreign Interference in the Electoral Process, which, among other things, has identified the spread of disinformation by Russian media outlets based in Serbia, such as “RT Balkans” and “Sputnik Srbija” that have distributed over 60 articles aimed at manipulating the Serbian community in Kosovo. These disinformation efforts pose a serious threat to the integrity of the elections and the democratic stability of the country.

At this meeting, as a joint finding, the behavior of citizens throughout the electoral process and the high level of democracy without incidents were highly appreciated.

Prime Minister Kurti reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Kosovo to address the recommendations of the report.
