Gjakova, 1 December, 2023

From the visit to the municipality of Gjilan, and after the visit to the municipality of Podujeva, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, took part in the ceremony of lighting the lights for Christmas, in the village of Pjetershan in the municipality of Gjakova.

Addressing all those present, the Prime Minister said that the symbol of turning on the lights tonight, shows that whoever goes after the light, after the truth, does not remain in the dark because whoever does good deeds, whoever loves the truth always comes to light.

“Good deeds bring peace and common good in our country and everywhere in the world. Therefore, sisters and brothers, with love, for justice, with peace, let us all move forward together,” he said.

Lighting the lights has already become a tradition in this village, which is otherwise known as the “Village of Lights”.
Under the organization of the Parish of Saint Joseph, of Pjetershan, this village has managed over the years to turn into an attractive place, which has attracted a large number of visitors due to its unique decorations.

Together with Prime Minister Kurti, the Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, as well as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Agron Dobruna, were also present.

The Prime Minister’s complete statement:

Then, as we all saw before January 1, 2024, we have December 1, so we have Advent, which is the time in which we prepare for Christmas, so it’s good that you came, it’s good that we find each other, it’s good that I find you to you here in Pjetershan, dear brothers and sisters.

Dear Don Marjan,
Dear believers,

The stable of Bethlehem is poor and shows exactly that humility without which there is no Christmas. Only those who understand that one should follow God in smallness and not in greatness, are able to worship him. Christmas is the feast of the poor, the humble, but exalted in God and rich in God. It comes to change us, not our conditions. But when we gain humility and a heart filled with love, we will change everything, the whole world, little by little.

We think about others, about our neighbors, so let’s bring to them what is beautiful in Christmas and what we ourselves have experienced, which is the closeness of God. Let us have time to meet, visit, gather, give our time to those who are alone and need us.

The symbol of turning on the lights tonight, shows that whoever goes after the light, after the truth, does not remain in the dark. Whoever does good deeds, whoever loves the truth always comes to light. Good deeds bring peace and common good in our country and everywhere in the world. So sisters and brothers, with love, for justice, with peace let’s all move forward together.

Thank you!
