Tetovë, 11 August, 2023
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, as part of the visit he made today to North Macedonia, namely the Municipality of Tetova, participated in the inauguration of the road that connects the village of Sellcë with the village of Vicë.
In front of the many present, Prime Minister Kurti, assessing the special importance of the inauguration of this road, said that economic development and infrastructure construction should not be reserved for urban areas, for cities and towns, but should also be rural development. .
“Based on the calculations, pre-calculations that have been made, it is not a very high cost, it is affordable, but the return on this investment is extraordinary since the road is shortened, time is gained and both citizens and the economy benefit. The axis that connects Prizren with Tetova is an agreement between our two governments from the joint meeting signed by the two prime ministers, that is, by me and my Macedonian counterpart, Kovacevski. Therefore, we want this feasibility study to be followed as soon as possible by the works and the realization of this major project which is regional and helps a lot in the development of both our countries”, said Prime Minister Kurti.
The Deputy Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, meanwhile said that the Prizren-Tetovo road is one of the priorities of the Government of Kosovo, therefore an agreement was immediately signed with the Government of Macedonia. He said that this road is of great importance for the development of tourism, and for bringing the two cities, Prizren and Tetova closer together, for the economic development of both countries, because the road is shortened to a large extent.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Tetova, Bilall Kasami, said that it is an honor for him, together with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to inaugurate a segment of the road from Tetova to Vicë, an investment that is of special importance for the Malësia region but also for the Municipality of Tetova, which with further investments will be committed to being an important axis of mountain tourism between the two countries, the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo. He thanked the Prime Minister of Kosovo, the ministers and the government for their commitment in the direction of connecting Tetova with Prizren.
Prime Minister Kurti’s complete statement:
I sincerely thank the inhabitants of the village of Vicë for this warm, warm hospitality, for this great kindness that they showed on the occasion of our arrival here. I thank the mayor of the Municipality of Tetova, Mr. Bilall Kasami, who brought us to a village which is one of the most beautiful I have seen in my life. And our coming here is also gratitude for the residents of this village with about 180 houses, who continue to stay here, not to leave the village, but to be here in their hometown, in their place of residence where they live and work.
Economic development and infrastructure construction should not be reserved for urban areas, cities and towns, but should also be rural development. We do this in Kosovo, it is very good when I see that this also happens in our neighboring country, in North Macedonia, in our beloved municipality of Tetova.
We have said several times that in the sky it seems that Prizren and Tetova were one city, but when God brought them to earth and the mountains of Sharri separated them, they made them two cities, Prizren and Tetova.
Of course, this road that we saw here is an internal road of the municipality, but we are very interested in moving as quickly as possible for the infrastructural connection of Prizren and Tetova, so that there were one city in the sky and two on the ground, through the axis of which also includes a tunnel.
Based on the calculations, pre-calculations that have been made, it is not a very high cost, it is affordable, but the return on this investment is extraordinary, since the road is shortened, time is gained and both citizens and the economy benefit.
The axis that connects Prizren with Tetova is an agreement between our two governments from the joint meeting signed by the two prime ministers, that is, by me and my Macedonian counterpart Kovacevski. Therefore, we want this feasibility study to be followed as soon as possible by the works and the realization of this major project, which is regional and helps a lot in the development of both our countries.
With me here is also the Deputy Minister from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo for Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, who could also say a few words about the importance of the connection between Tetova and Prizren, the connection between Prizren and Tetova.
