March 30, 2025

Milloshevë, Obiliq, March 30, 2025

On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the massacre in Milloshevë committed by Serbian forces, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Member of Parliament, Halil Thaçi, paid homage near the tombstone of the four members of the Morina family, in the courtyard of the House of Culture, at the memorial plaque of the Morina family from the village of Hade.

In these homages, the Prime Minister said that today we mark the 26th anniversary of the murder of four members of the Morina family, activist Fejzullah Morina and his three sons, the KLA soldier, Lavdim Morina, as well as two children, Fidaim Morina and Shkëlzen Morina.

Prime Minister Kurti recalled that 13% of those killed during the war in Kosovo were children, he said, remembering the victims of this massacre, 14-year-old Fidaim and 10-year-old Shkëlzen.

“So, almost every seventh person killed in the last war of 1998-1999 was a child.”, the Prime Minister further mentioned.

In order to more adequately commemorate the children killed throughout Kosovo, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, will erect a central memorial as a sign of honor and remembrance for all children killed during the war in Kosovo so that beyond the anniversaries of specific cases and beyond the places throughout Kosovo where all these children were killed, they can be adequately remembered with a common memorial.

“May the memory of Fejzullah, Lavdim, Fidaim and Shkëlzen Morina be eternal, because without their blood, and that of all the martyrs and the fallen of our nation, Kosovo could not have been liberated, could not have become independent, and today, we would not have the development and democracy,” the Prime Minister said.

Full speech by Prime Minister Kurti:

Honorable Morina family,
Honorable Zyber,

Dear residents of the village of Milloshevë, residents of the village of Hade and citizens of the villages of the Municipality of Obiliq, Kastriot,

Throughout our country of Kosovo, there are locations marked with memorial complexes, with tombstones and commemorative plaques to mark the places where thousands of civilians were killed or executed during the war, or where massacres and other crimes were committed in Kosovo by the state of Serbia. March 30, which this year happened to be Eid al-Fitr, brings us together here in the courtyard of the House of Culture, at the memorial plaque of the Morina family from the village of Hade, and Aliu family as well, whom we will also remember for their sacrifice on May 17, a month and a half later.

Now 26 years after the war in Kosovo and the liberation, we commemorate four members of the Morina family, the activist Fejzullah Morina, as a parent, and his three sons, the soldier of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Lavdim Morina, as well as two children, Fidaim Morina and Shkëlzen Morina.

They fell for Kosovo’s freedom, each according to their age and the duty required by the time of the war. Considering the age of Fidaim and Shkëlzen, one 14 years old and the other 10 years old, let us remember that 13% of those killed during the war in Kosovo were children. So, almost every seventh person killed in the last war of 1998-1999 was a child.

For this very reason, our government has conceived a project through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports that will result in the establishment of a central memorial to remember all the children who were killed during the war. So that beyond the anniversaries of specific cases and beyond the places throughout Kosovo where all these children were killed, they can be worthily remembered with a common memorial.

May the memory of Fejzullah, Lavdim, Fidaim and Shkëlzen Morina be eternal, because without their blood, and all the martyrs and the fallen of our nation, Kosovo could not have been liberated, could not have become independent, and today, we would not have the development and democracy.

But, we, the living, also have an obligation, as generations after them, to build a free and progressive society that serves this generation, but also future generations, the current children of Kosovo, but also the children who will be born in the future so that they have prosperity, dignity, progress and never be in danger from anyone. Therefore, security, democracy and development are the three pillars that both keep Serbia away and elevate our state and people.

Glory to Fejzullah, Lavdim, Fidaim and Shkëlzen!

Glory to all the martyrs and the fallen of the Albanian nation and happy Eid al-Fitr to everyone!
