The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted a delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). In the meeting, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti.

The main topics of discussion were the rights of non-majority communities, human rights and the rule of law.

Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that membership in the Council of Europe is of historical importance, therefore the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to its path towards this goal. In addition to the direct benefit of the citizens, Kosovo’s membership in this international organization would also increase the standard and performance of the local justice system, which again benefits the citizens, said the prime minister.

He added that democracy, human rights and the rule of law are values that we share with the Council of Europe, which are also values that strengthen the dignity of citizens and the opportunity for socio-economic development.

Among the Government’s actions focusing on non-majority communities, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized the fact that with the 2024 budget, the Ministry for Communities and Return will be the ministry with the largest increase in the budget, with the exception of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports that, due to the organization of the 2030 Mediterranean Games, have a larger budget allocation.

He also mentioned the fund of three million euros for the non-majority communities for this year as well as the budget of two million euros for the renovation and construction of the houses of the non-majority communities in the municipalities, which as a program is expected to continue in the next year.

Prime Minister Kurti also informed the delegation about the multi-ethnic composition of the government cabinet and the level of representation of non-majority communities in state institutions.
