Pristina, 12 May 2025
The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the acting Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi and the acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti, welcomed today the ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of the QUINT countries and the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo.
The central topic of the meeting was the process of the accession of the Republic of Kosovo to the Council of Europe. The Prime Minister recalled that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the rapporteur for the accession of Kosovo to the Council of Europe have already confirmed that Kosovo meets the legal and institutional criteria to be part of this important international organization. He stressed that further advancement of our country in the accession process would show that democratic reforms and alignment with European norms and values are recognized and valued even in difficult political contexts that require principled and strategic decisions that strengthen European unity and sustainability. As a result of the delays in membership, the Prime Minister further added, the citizens of Kosovo, including non-majority communities and other vulnerable groups, continue to be denied the right to access the European Court of Human Rights, a key protection mechanism that could significantly strengthen individual rights and accountability.
During the meeting, the way forward in the European Union integration process and recent developments in the country were also discussed.
