The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted a meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations authorized by the Government for the process of recognizing and verifying the status of survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.

During the meeting, the work and commitment of the organizations, along with the Government Commission, were recognized in the sensitive process of acknowledging the status of survivors of sexual violence during the war, emphasizing that this process is now entering its seventh year and requires special attention and dedication.

Discussions focused on ways to further improve the application process and encourage as many survivors as possible to seek recognition of their status. Despite the fact that the real number of victims is much higher, applications remain relatively low due to fear of prejudice and stigmatization.

The joint meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Saranda Bogujevci, and the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu. Also present were Feride Rushiti, Director of the Kosovo Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Survivors, Mirlinda Sada, Director of the organization Medica Gjakova, Kadire Tahiraj, Director of the Center for the Promotion of Women’s Rights in Drenas, and Veprore Shehu, Director of Medica Kosova.
