On March 7, 1999, the family of Mejdi Asllani was attacked by four Serbian policemen, who took the entire Asllani family hostage, holding the barrels of machine guns to their heads and chests inside their house, in the Emshir neighborhood of Pristina. Mejdiu was a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, together with his two sons Asllan and Bekim. In an incredibly dramatic event, Mejdi Asllani together with his son Asllani managed to turn the situation around thanks to the hand grenades and a machine gun they had at home. That day they set an extraordinary example of resistance in the capital.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today received in his office the sons of the former KLA fighter, Mejdi Asllani, also known as “Old Man of Emshirit”, Bekim and Asllan Asllani and their friend, Burim Zagragja.
In this meeting that was planned since the beginning of the year together with Mejdi to be held precisely in marking of the 25th anniversary of his battle in Emshir, Prime Minister Kurti and his sons Bekimi and Asllani today remembered the life and work of the now deceased Mejdi Asllani. a warrior with heart and mind, patriot in war and in peace, who continues to inspire us, and who will never be forgotten.
Mejdi Asllani died on January 31 of this year. Prime Minister Kurti had participated in his funeral ceremony.
