The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with the Government Commission for the Recognition and Verification of the Status of Persons Subjected to Violence During the Kosovo Liberation War.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the work and commitment of the Government Commission and the authorized organizations in carrying out a crucial and sensitive process—recognizing and supporting survivors of sexual violence during the war.
Based on the Commission’s recommendations, it was agreed that the application process would continue for an additional two years.
The need to further encourage survivors to apply for the recognition of their status was emphasized. It was noted that a broader public discussion on this issue may be necessary, aiming for a more open and inclusive process in addressing the needs and rights of survivors of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.
The joint meeting was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Saranda Bogujevci, and the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu. Also present were the Chair of the Government Commission, Leonora Selmani, and Commission members: Xhevahire Balaj, Feride Podvorica, Mentor Borovci, Nazmije Kajtazi, Ilir Gutaj, Jeta Krasniqi, Shpend Haxhibeqiri, and Kreshnik Oseku.
The participants also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Commission, authorized organizations (KRCT, Medica Kosova, Medica Gjakova, and the Center for the Promotion of Women’s Rights in Drenas), and the municipal offices of the Department for the Families of Martyrs and War Invalids.
