The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the greatest Albanian writer of international renown, Ismail Kadare, had discussions about the literature, history and culture of the Albanian people today in a friendly meeting.
Bringing back the past for the world of books, during the conversation, Prime Minister Kurti reminded Kadare how his books have been a criterion to be read by students, thus mentioning the famous works “Princesha Argjiro”, “Castle”, “Bridge with three bows” and “General of the dead army”. He stated that these volumes were the motive that encouraged the reading of all Kadare’s works.
Because this creativity of Kadare highlights the Albanian national history from a different angle, a more human and spiritual one, according to the Prime Minister, it is the reason that makes it such a beautiful art of storytelling and encouragement to read the story of history. Consequently, he reiterated that we should teach the younger generations more history through Kadare’s literature, as it is irreplaceable and essential.
On the other hand, the writer Ismail Kadare appreciated the words of the prime minister, stressing that work and creativity for nations is among the moral and universal obligations. Meanwhile, he ranked Albania among the first countries in Europe that published literature, such as historical and national books in the Albanian language.
Further, regarding the Albanian culture, Kadare added that in addition to serving the Albanian people, it also has a special role in serving the entire European area, which finds resumption and inspiration in the time of Dante. By means of literary art, he said that we must convey the truth to our readers, our followers, because this value is very important to us and is precious to humanity.
In this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku, while the writer Ismail Kadare was accompanied by his wife, Helena Kadare.
Today, during the day, the opening of the 23rd edition of the Book Fair, organized by the Association of Publishers of Kosovo and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, was held, where Prime Minister Kurti also participated.
