The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted the Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Cameron Alford, to mark the beginning of an important moment for our country in the development of the economy through the transformation of the energy sector, the beginning of the Compact program with MCC.
Accompanied by the American ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier and the Director of the MCC Program, Rinor Gjonbalaj, Mr. Alford congratulated the Prime Minister on this new and important start for Kosovo, through the operationalization of the joint program of Kosovo in support and cooperation of the States United States of America.
The Prime Minister informed Mr. Alford about the success of the solar energy auction and the ambitious energy strategy of the Government, which also serves as the platform for the work of the Compact. Further, together with the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli and the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, he informed Mr. Alford of the Government’s vision in terms of economic development and employment growth through investment in professional training, investment in energy and in the preparation of new staff in the STEM fields through scholarships.
The Compact Program, which has as its main component the construction of energy storage capacities, also foresees important components for the development of human capacities and the increase of gender equality in the energy sector in the country. The Compact Program has a value of 236.7 million dollars, of which 202 are grants from the United States of America, while 34.7 million are co-financing from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
Together with MCC and MCA, as with many other projects and programs of USAID, and in partnership with the USA, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to implement the programs accurately and for the benefit of its citizens.
The signing ceremony of the agreement for the entry into force of the MCC Compact is held today at 17:00.
