Berlin, 14 October, 2024
After the sessions and proceedings of the Berlin Process Summit, which was held on its 10th anniversary in the capital of Germany, in the building of the German Chancellery, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hajrulla Çeku was welcomed for a bilateral meeting by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
Prime Minister Kurti thanked Chancellor Scholz for today’s hospitality, and congratulated him for the successful summit which was preceded by six ministerial meetings and the opening of the CEFTA, where now Kosovo is represented by its own institutions instead of UNMIK.
Together they discussed bilateral relations and areas in which Germany can support Kosovo. Prime Minister Kurti asked him and Germany to support the removal of EU measures, which has already been requested by the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell. The Prime Minister also asked Chancellor Scholz for support in addressing the issue of Serbia’s airspace, which remains closed to commercial flights to and from Kosovo for 25 years, causing both financial damage to airline companies and environmental pollution due to extension of flights to and from Kosovo.
Prime Minister Kurti emphasized his and the Republic of Kosovo’s commitment to regional cooperation and full support for the Berlin Process and the implementation of the agreements reached within it, including those that were signed and agreed upon today, namely the Agreement on Access to Education Higher and Admission to Study in the Western Balkans and the Regional Common Market Action Plan 2025-2028.
As for the relations with Serbia and the dialogue process facilitated by Brussels, the prime minister said that the signing of the Basic Agreement, the surrender of the chief terrorist Millan Radoicic, but also of his group, for whom there is already an indictment from the state prosecutor’s office, and the withdrawal of the letter of Serbia in which it expresses reservations about the Basic Agreement are fundamental and evidence of good will and good faith on the part of Serbia for the rapid fulfillment and full respect of the Agreement and its implementing Annex.
He thanked the chancellor for the close cooperation and continuous support of him and Germany towards Kosovo and its people.
