During the stay in Washington for the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the first deputy prime minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue, Besnik Bislimi together with the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, were received by senior representatives of both financial institutions.
Within the framework of the meetings with the World Bank, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi and Minister Murati met with the Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Anna Bjerde and the Deputy Head for Europe of the World Bank, Mrs. Antonella Bassani. Discussions during the meetings focused on the global and local economic situation. A special emphasis was given to the development plan of the Government of Kosovo, as well as current and potential projects with the World Bank on infrastructure investments aimed at improving the lives of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi and Minister Murati also met the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, Mr. Bo Li and the Head of the IMF for Europe, Mr. Alfred Kammer.
Kosovo will be the first country in Europe to benefit from the IMF’s newest instrument for sustainability, the so-called “Resilience and Sustainability Trust”. This news comes after the Government’s negotiations with the IMF during the IMF’s visit to Kosovo in March.
The new IMF program in Kosovo includes making available up to 260 million euros, of which 100 million euros will be in the form of budget support, while 80 million euros will be made available for investments in new capacity building for wind and solar energy, with the possibility of expansion for another 80 million euros.
The spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund bring together finance and economy ministers, parliamentarians, academics, as well as representatives of central banks, the private sector and civil society to discuss issues of global interest in the field of economic development
