Prishtina, 4 February 2023

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku and the Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ardita Sinani, received today political representatives of the Bosnian and Albanian community living under Serbia.

From the SDA Shanxhak delegation headed by the chairman Dr. Sulejman Ugljanin, accompanied by the chairman of PVD, Shaip Kamberi, and two other deputies in the Serbian Parliament, Enis Imamovic and Selma Kucevic, Prime Minister Kurti was informed about the concerns and problems they are facing.

The constituent elements of the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia were also discussed with the Bosnian and Albanian representatives.

The rights of non-majority communities in our states reflect our democracy and development as a society. Unlike Serbia, since Freedom House classifies it as a state with a hybrid regime, the Republic of Kosovo is a democratic state with rights and freedom for all, emphasized Prime Minister Kurti. He added that different communities should be treated without distinction within the framework of universal principles and in full harmony with the standards of the European Union.

The three deputies in the Assembly of Serbia who accept independent Kosovo, Enis Imamovic, Selma Kucevic and Shaip Kamberi, together with Dr. Sulejman Ugljanin emphasized that they are dissatisfied with the status of Bosniaks and Albanians in general and especially in the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Tutin and Sjenica in Sanxhak as well as Presheva, Medvegja and Bujanoc in the Valley. They demanded reciprocity of rights with the Serbs in the Republic of Kosovo.

They agreed that for lasting peace and security in the Western Balkans there should be symmetry of rights, and not privileged access to a minority or community.
