Following the commitments of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to increase social welfare in the country, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, namely the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers for the third time in a row is financially supporting non-governmental organizations that provide services of popular kitchens.
This activity is carried out within measure 3.4 of the Economic Revival Package and foresees the support of 19 humanitarian organizations with 1.2 million euros, which will provide free food to the most needed families.
During the ceremony of signing the agreements, Prime Minister Kurti said that “folk kitchens, in addition to providing food for those most in need, are also a symbol of our common humanity and evidence of the power of the community to positively influence the lives of those who they need it the most”.
Minister Murati, on the other hand, praised the cooperation with humanitarian organizations so far, saying that “measure 3.4 was initially piloted to see if humanitarian organizations need support from the state, and as a result of the successful cooperation we have had so far, we are happy that this year we are continuing to extend the hand of the state to the families who need it the most, through you”.
Until now, the organizations benefiting from this type of support have offered over 300,000 food items, while in the spring of last year, within the same measure, the Ministry of Finance, through 39 partner non-governmental organizations, financed the purchase of nearly 35 thousand food packages, which the organizations distributed to the most needy families in all the municipalities of our country.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to undertaking policies aimed at supporting the family, increasing well-being and easier access to social services for all citizens.
The complete speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti:
The Honorable Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Mr. Hekuran Murati,
Dear Deputy Minister, Mr. Makreshi,
Dear representatives of charitable organizations,
Following the commitments of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to increase social welfare in our country, this is the third time we are implementing measure 3.4 of the Economic Revival Package.
When this measure was first implemented in the fall of 2021, the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers offered financial support to 13 non-governmental organizations, for the continuation of the work of popular kitchens, which may have been negatively affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.
As a result, the beneficiary organizations provided over 300,000 meals. Measure 3.4 continued to be implemented again in the spring of the year we left behind, this time in the form of food parcels. With 39 beneficiary non-governmental organizations, the Ministry of Finance, Labor and Transfers financed the purchase of nearly 35,000 food packages, which the organizations distributed to the most needed families in all the municipalities of our country.
Therefore, considering the cooperation so far with charitable organizations, and also being aware that state mechanisms do not always have a comprehensive effect, we are pleased that as the Government we continue to support your popular cuisines.
Soup kitchens, in addition to providing food to those most in need, are also a symbol of our common humanity and a testament to the power of community to positively impact the lives of those most in need.
Thank you.
