Pristina, January 24, 2025

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, today participated in the graduation ceremony of 462 cadets of the 61st generation of the Kosovo Police. Of these, 343 members are Albanians, 79 are Serbs, 23 Bosniaks, 6 Turks, 6 Egyptians, 3 Ashkali and 2 members are Roma.

“There are many ways to serve the country, personally and collectively, privately and publicly, but there is no more direct path than to wear the police uniform and take on the responsibility of responding to the daily needs and calls of citizens. Therefore, from today, by taking the oath at this graduation ceremony, with these new uniforms that are fitting you so beautifully and with these weapons and equipment on your belt that are so fitting for you, you are joining a special institutional category, which has the obligation to respond to the duty of maintaining order and respecting and enforcing the law on a daily basis in our Republic”, said Prime Minister Kurti at the beginning of his address to the new members of the Kosovo Police.

Being the year 2025, the Year of Women, Prime Minister Kurti mentioned that 1247 girls and women with various ranks and duties serve in the Kosovo Police, while from today 1303 are becoming police officers. On this occasion, the Prime Minister called on all girls and women of Kosovo who have the desire and who feel ready to serve the country, as well as those who imagine themselves as police officers, to apply to the competitions of the Ministry of Interior, to realize this will and realize this dream.

On the other hand, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, said that he is very happy and proud to be here today to mark an extremely important step for the Kosovo Police and for our entire Republic. From today, on the occasion of the graduation of our boys and girls of the 61st generation, the Kosovo Police will be even stronger, and our Republic even safer.

At the end of the ceremony, certificates were distributed to the class captains of the 61st Generation of the Kosovo Police by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, and the Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha.

In the last four years, six generations of new cadets have graduated, with a total of 2,475 new police officers joining the Kosovo Police.

Full speech of Prime Minister Kurti:

Honorable President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu,
Honorable Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Emilija Rexhepi,
Honorable Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Xhelal Sveçla,
Honorable Director General of the Kosovo Police, Mr. Gazmend Hoxha,
Honorable Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, Leaders and Representatives of the Institutions of the Republic,
Your Excellency the Ambassador and Honorable Representatives of Diplomatic Missions in our Country,
Honorable Director of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Mr. Petrit Ajeti,
Dear Families of the Cadets,
Honorable Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Sisters and Brothers,

There are many ways to serve the country, personally and collectively, privately and publicly, but there is no more direct path than to wear the police uniform and undertake to respond to the daily needs and calls of citizens. Therefore, from today, by taking an oath in this graduation ceremony, with these new uniforms that are fitting you so beautifully and with these weapons and equipment on your belt that are fitting you so much, you are joining a special institutional category that has the obligation to respond to the duty of maintaining order and respecting and enforcing the law on a daily basis in our Republic.

The gender and ethnic structure of this generation of cadets who are becoming police officers from today also shows the structure of our society and the policies of our state. In the 61st generation, a total of 462 new members of the Police are graduating, of whom 406 are boys and men and 56 are girls and women. Of this generation, 343 members are Albanians, 79 are Serbs, 23 Bosniaks, 6 Turks, 6 Egyptians, 3 Ashkali and 2 members are Roma. This ethnic diversity, in addition to reflecting equality in access and opportunities for everyone in our society, also demonstrates the success of the integration of non-majority communities in Kosovo institutions, including security institutions.

Since the beginning of my term as Prime Minister, I have tried to participate in all graduation ceremonies of Kosovo Police cadets, for which I am very pleased that now, when our 4-year mandate as a government is coming to an end, our commitment to 2,000 new police officers is being fulfilled and exceeded, since during these four years, 6 generations of cadets have graduated with a total of 2,475 new police officers.

But today, I want to express a special congratulations and encouragement. Two weeks ago, on January 10, we declared 2025 the Year of Women. There are 1,247 girls and women serving in the Kosovo Police with various ranks and duties, and as of today, 1,303 are becoming police officers. Since they are being joined by 56 new policewomen, I would like to thank them in particular, congratulating them for their courage, interest and willingness to serve our country. On this occasion, I would like to invite all girls and women in Kosovo who have the desire and who feel ready to serve their country, as well as those who envision themselves as police officers, to apply for the competitions of the Ministry of Interior, to put this will into practice and realize this dream.

Honorable families of cadets, parents, mothers and fathers, grandparents, sisters and brothers, thank you for the daughters and sons you have raised and educated, and thank you for the support you have given them from the day they decided to apply to be police officers, until today when you will hug them with congratulations for having succeeded in becoming police officers.

Dear cadets, I am addressing you for the last time in this capacity, from now on, dear police officers of Kosovo, never forget your oath, respect your commitment to the laws and the Constitution of the Republic, and serve with honor and integrity, both professional and personal. Maintain order and enforce the law, because in this way you make the Republic of Kosovo a safer state and a more livable place.

Congratulations on your new role and may you retire in the uniform of the Kosovo Police.

Congratulations, congratulations and congratulations!

Thank you!
