Hajvali, 22 April 2025
The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, and the Managing Director of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, Driton Hetemi, visited two social multi-apartment buildings in Hajvali, where investments are being made to improve energy efficiency.
These buildings, which were built in 2017, are home to over 500 residents or 100 families. One block is home to 50 families of Kosovo Liberation Army war veterans, while the other block is home to 50 families from the social assistance scheme. For years, they have had uninsulated walls, frail windows and a lack of adequate heating. With the investments that are being made now, through energy efficiency measures, in addition to healthier conditions for all residents, those families will have lower bills and more efficient heating and cooling. As part of this measure, in addition to thermal insulation in the buildings, each residential unit will also be equipped with an efficient air conditioner.
During the visit, Prime Minister Kurti was informed about the progress of the works, the common areas of the residents living there and the results of the work so far, where according to the latest energy audit, the savings in energy consumption in these two buildings are around 40%. During the visit, it was emphasized that in some of the public buildings, hospitals and schools, which have been insulated as part of energy efficiency investments, energy savings have reached up to 90%.
These renovations are being carried out by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund with support from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, through a grant from the European Union (90%) and the participation of the Municipality of Prishtina (10%). Across the country, there are a total of 25 such buildings that are being renovated, in which over 750 families live.
With energy efficiency measures, so far we have supported over 3,000 families to insulate their homes, over 40,000 families have benefited from heating equipment and solar panels for self-consumption energy production, and we have renovated 125 public buildings, mainly schools and hospitals.
