The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Dimal Basha, visited the construction works on the new bridge over the Iber River in Mitrovica, which will connect Zhabar and Gushac.
Commending the increased pace of the works, Prime Minister Kurti said that the bridge enhances security by enabling law enforcement authorities easier and faster access to both sides of the Iber River and, at the same time, it constitutes an important infrastructure investment that improves connectivity between citizens and businesses and creates better conditions for the economic development of this area.
The bridge project, with a length of 65 metres and a width of 22.5 metres, also includes the construction of two roundabouts, as well as a 500-metre road segment with four lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, and sidewalks measuring 2.2 metres in width.
The Prime Minister stated that the project also envisages the rehabilitation of the Iber River bed over a length of 525 metres and a width of 47 metres, with the aim of protecting the environment, enhancing safety and safeguarding the surrounding infrastructure.
“The project is part of our commitment to greater security, more functional infrastructure, better services for citizens and improved conditions for sustainable economic development for this region of our country as well, namely the Iber area and the north of Kosovo,” said Prime Minister Kurti.

We are here together with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Dimal Basha, as well as other colleagues from the Government, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of South Mitrovica, colleagues and activists and especially the workers, who, as you can see, have intensified the pace of the works so that we achieve our objective of completing this bridge within this year.
This is the bridge project that will connect Zhabar and Gushac. It is a bridge that enhances security, as it enables law enforcement authorities easier and faster access to both sides of the Iber River. At the same time, it is also an important infrastructure investment because it improves connectivity between citizens and businesses and creates better conditions for the economic development of this area.
The bridge has been designed with a length of 65 metres and a width of 22.5 metres. The width is 22.5 metres because it will have four traffic lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, while sidewalks will also be built on both sides.
The project also includes the construction of two roundabouts, as well as a 500-metre road segment with four lanes, each 3.5 metres wide, and sidewalks measuring 2.2 metres in width.

Special attention has been given to adequate and modern lighting. Lighting poles are planned along the bridge, the sidewalks and the areas surrounding the river.
As regards the progress of the works, they are proceeding according to the planned schedule and, if this pace continues as we are witnessing today, we will be able to inaugurate the completion of the works this year, namely towards the end of 2026.
