Pristina, December 9, 2024
Today, at the Radiology Clinic, the new waiting area, the reception desk, and the digital queue system were inaugurated.
For the first time, the digital reception system was installed, which avoids congestion and better organizes the flow of patients. This system is part of a project that includes 15 clinics of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), valued at 80 thousand euros.
The transformation of the waiting areas and counters in Radiology is part of a broader investment that also includes renovations in the counters of the Surgery Clinic, plastic surgery, urology, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and neurosurgery, as well as the Biochemistry Clinic. The value of these investments amounts to 393 thousand euros.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr. Arben Vitia, and leaders of HUCSK and UCCK, visited the transformed spaces in the Radiology Clinic.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also stopped at the Nuclear Medicine Clinic, where the most advanced diagnostic device in the region – the SPECT/CT Any-scan Trio – has been installed and made operational. This is the only device with three detectors for detailed examinations. The value of this device is 850 thousand euros, making Kosovo the only country in the region that possesses such technology.
In the same clinic, the PET/CT service has also been operationalized, through the equipment received as a donation from the United Arab Emirates, thanks to the efforts of former President Atifete Jahjaga and President Osmani.
The Government of Kosovo remains committed to creating modern conditions in public healthcare, with advanced equipment and easier access for citizens to healthcare services.
Prime Minister Kurti’s full statement:
Thank you for coming here today to the Radiology Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo. I am together with several doctors, who also hold their official institutional roles, with Minister Arben Vitia, then with the directors of HUCSK and UCCK, Elvir Azizi and Osman Hajdari, with the doctor, Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmire Mulhaxha Kollçaku, who simultaneously chairs the Health Committee in our legislature. Furthermore, there is also Doctor Fakir Spahiu, with whom we previously visited the Clinical Service of Nuclear Medicine and observed the latest technology with which nuclear medicine in Kosovo is equipped. Additionally, there is Doctor Shkëndije Nuza, who is the director of this Radiology Clinic.
Here where we are, we have adapted the corridors and waiting areas. In addition to the Radiology Clinic, also in Medical Biochemistry and surgery, the overall value is slightly more than 393 thousand euros, and the works have been completed over 90 percent in all three of these clinics, and fully, precisely here where we are now in Radiology.
Therefore, we have aimed to organize the waiting areas and corridors for patients and families in the halls of these three clinics: radiology, biochemistry, and surgery. In doing so, we have addressed all the interior elements that enhance the quality work of doctors, specialists, and nurses, as well as ensure the most dignified and successful treatment of patients. Firstly, we have addressed the walls, ceiling, doors, stair railings, and also the exit doors in the corridors, lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical outlets, and installations, as well as seven new counters, which have arrived and been installed here, to ensure that everything is as efficient and high-quality as possible. Meanwhile, the floor and the stairs have undergone a thorough cleaning.
Before arriving here in Radiology, we were at the Nuclear Medicine Clinical Service, where we were equipped with a device that is the only one of its kind in the Balkan region. The new device is called SPECT/CT, valued at 850 thousand euros. It has been purchased from the state budget, although there have been requests since 2018, it has never been purchased before. SPECT/CT utilizes radioactive isotopes to create functional images and to demonstrate how both organs and tissues operate within the human body, in parallel with CT, which produces high-detail structural images of the body’s anatomy. The combination of these two techniques aids in more accurate diagnosis. Necessary trainings have also been conducted for the staff regarding these functions and this highly modern equipment, during which we also have additional investments from donations, which have completed the range of services in the Clinical Service of Nuclear Medicine.
As you are aware, earlier, more precisely a few months ago, the PET/CT was delivered as a donation from the United Arab Emirates, facilitated by former President Jahjaga and President Osmani. And now, as an addition, we have this SPECT/CT worth 850 thousand euros, which is good news for healthcare workers as well as for current and potential patients in our country.
Thank you.
