On the 35th anniversary of the fall of the nation’s martyrs Afrim Zhitia and Fahri Fazliu, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, paid homage near their graves in Velani.

Prime Minister Kurti recalled the event that happened 35 years ago, the fighting that had lasted for over six hours in the neighborhood of the capital, exactly on the Dell River, where Afrim Zhitia and Fahri Fazliu fought, until they fell heroically for the liberation of Kosovo and the expulsion of the occupying forces and Serbian enemy from our homeland.

“In Kosovo, Serbia’s apartheid was starting after the classic occupation that followed the removal of the autonomy we had, while Europe was being liberated because a week later the Berlin wall would collapse. When Europe was freeing itself from the dictatorship and uniting, apartheid was starting in Kosovo. Those were very difficult circumstances, unimaginable for us today, and in those circumstances the most worthy activists, the most indomitable fighters and heroes of our people, such as Afrim Zhitia, Fahri Fazliu and many, many others, who will to continue their path until the popular uprising led by the Kosovo Liberation Army”, said the Prime Minister.

In marking the 35th anniversary of their death, he emphasized that we never forget where they come from, and at the same time we do not forget that the nation’s martyrs have done the most important work. “Meanwhile, the rest of us have an important part of the job left, but still much smaller than theirs, but what we have to do now is to give the best with everything we can and know in the way they have given us enlighten them”, said the prime minister.
