The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Faton Peci, participated in the unveiling ceremony of the statue of the president Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, under the patronage of the Mayor of Podujeva, Shpejtim Bulliqi, where the President of the country, Vjosa Osmani and the former president of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, were also present.
The statue, made by the sculptor Gëzim Muriqi and financed by the Municipality of Podujeva, was unveiled in the presence of high state representatives, the Rugova family and citizens on the 34th anniversary of the Constitution of the First Republic of Kosovo, known as the Kaçanik Constitution .
On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti said that the social resistance, which preceded the active student protests and the glorious liberation war, required intellectual engagement and civic contribution, national commitment and cultural level, political awareness and international affirmation. With calm and wise words, with continuous and patient work, President Rugova represented his policies in Kosovo and abroad, for freedom, democracy and independence, said Prime Minister Kurti.
The statue, which now stands in the Podujeva City Park, enriches the iconography of our public spaces in honor and memory of the contribution and role of the first President of Kosovo (May 24, 1992) and at the same time the first President of liberated Kosovo (February 4, 2002 ), Dr. Ibrahim Rugova.
