The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited the family of the deceased KLA fighter, Mejdi Asllani, known as the “Old Man of the Mountains.

After the honors at the funeral ceremony on February 1, also during this visit, the prime minister expressed his deep gratitude and high appreciation for the “Old Man of the Mountains”, for the old man of Emshir, for Mejdi Asllan, for his life and for his works.

The story and sacrifice of the warrior Asllani, together with his family, will always live in our hearts and memory.

In this condolence visit to the family of Mejdi Asllani, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla, the Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, the Deputy Minister of Defense, Shemsi Syla, the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo, Shqipe Selimi and Driton Hyseni, as well as activists of the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement.

The note of Prime Minister Kurti, in the book of memories of the KLA fighter, Mejdi Asllani:

Old Man of the Mountains, the Old Man of Emshir, Mejdi Asllani, was a warrior with heart and mind, a patriot in war and in peace, who has always inspired us, and who we will never forget. His heroic act of March 7, 1999 and unstoppable patriotic activity are now in our hearts and minds and live there.

On March 7, 1999, the family of Mejdi Asllani was attacked by four Serbian policemen, who took the entire Asllani family hostage, holding machine guns to their heads and chests inside their house, in the Emshir neighborhood of Pristina. Mejdiu was a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, together with his two sons Asllan and Bekim. In an incredibly dramatic event, Mejdi Asllani, together with his son Asllani, managed to change the situation thanks to hand grenades and a machine gun they had at home. That day they gave an extraordinary example of resistance.
