The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted today in a meeting the new ambassador of the Czech Republic in Kosovo, Bohumil Mazanek.
Having officially met for the first time at the reception of the Czech embassy on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the National Day of October 28, 1918, today’s meeting coincided with another historic date for the Czech Republic, that of the “Velvet Revolution” of 17 November 1989.
Recently, Kosovo and the Czech Republic raised the respective levels of representation to the highest level of ambassadors with full rights. This step is a testament to our excellent relationship, built on our shared commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Prime Minister Kurti and Ambassador Mazanek discussed bilateral relations, emphasizing readiness for increased cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade exchanges, security and defense, parliamentary diplomacy and culture.
As a great supporter of the region, the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU during the past year has been among the most successful. The countries of the region advanced on their way to the EU, including Kosovo, which managed to have the political decision and consensus of the member states on visa liberalization, and we officially submitted our application for EU membership last December in Prague.
Prime Minister Kurti emphasized the commitment of the Republic of Kosovo to the country’s strategic objectives, such as membership in the Council of Europe, NATO’s Partnership for Peace and obtaining the status of a candidate country for advancement on the path to EU membership.
He thanked Ambassador Mazanek for the continuous support of the Czech Republic to Kosovo. The ambassador added that the Czech Republic is a big supporter of Kosovo and this is the constant policy of the country.
Prime Minister Kurti also offered his condolences to the Czech people for the loss of such an important personality as the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karel Schwarzenberg.
Reiterating the commitment to strengthening relations between our two countries, Prime Minister Kurti thanked Ambassador Mazanek for his conversation and commitment.
