Honoring and elevating the memory of the children who were killed and missing during the war was at the center of the meeting of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, with the Rector of the University of Pristina, Qerim Qerimi, the staff and students engaged in the project for the memorial dedicated to them.
On the International Children’s Day, children killed, missing or who lost their lives due to the conditions of the war were commemorated, as well as there was talk about the started process of consultations with family members about the best way to commemorate the memorialization.
War crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are not over and the wounds from them are still fresh, said Prime Minister Kurti. He emphasized that especially the murders of children and pregnant women during the war are genocide committed by Serbia, a crime against future generations that cannot be forgotten or forgiven.
In the meeting with researchers and students, it was discussed about the beginning of the consultation phase and the drafting of the narrative document on the memorial for the children killed and missing during the war in Kosovo. It was emphasized that after the drafting of the document, the international competition for the children’s memorial project will be announced. For parents, family members and witnesses, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has opened the telephone line: 046 222 006, as well as the e-mail address memoriali@rks-gov.net, where the teams can be contacted to go to the families and include in the consultation process.
In this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu and the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku, where the Vice-Rector of the University of Pristina, Njomëza Llullaku, the Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dashamir Bëxulli, professors Durim Abdullahu also participated and Erëblir Kadriu, as well as the students engaged in the consultation process with the families of children who were killed and missing during the 1998-99 war in Kosovo.
