The Government of the Republic of Kosovo welcomes today’s approval by the European Parliament of the report on Kosovo, which highlights successes and positive messages for the country.
Strengthening democracy, the rule of law, fighting corruption, economic development and institutional and governance prudence are just some of the examples mentioned in this report.
It is also emphasized that the European Parliament welcomes Kosovo’s application for membership in the EU, calling for the presentation of the questionnaire and the preparation of the opinion on the application and reiterates the support for the country’s membership in international organizations, such as the Council of Europe, NATO’s PFP and INTERPOL.
Praises Kosovo for the increased legislative activity related to the reforms of the European agenda and the progress in the implementation of the priorities of the European Reforms Agenda II and the strengthening of institutional capacities.
It welcomes the longest period of political stability so far after the 2021 elections.
In the report, member states that have not yet recognized Kosovo are requested to do so without further delay.
Among others, in economic development positively evaluates the exceptional performance of exports, economic growth as well as policies to ease the impact of the pandemic and high energy prices for the most affected families and businesses.
In relation to the dialogue process, based on mutual recognition, Kosovo is considered as a committed and constructively engaged party. Meanwhile, it condemns Serbia for the escalating actions of actors sponsored by them, including illegal blockades, violent attacks and threats of military action, as well as their campaign of de-recognition and the vote against Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.
The report particularly highlights and welcomes the increased engagement and dialogue with Kosovo Serbs during the past year.
