Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi hosted in a meeting the Minister for Europe of the United Kingdom, Leo Docherty

The first Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, hosted today in a meeting the Minister for Europe of the United Kingdom, Leo Docherty, who is staying in Kosovo on an official visit.

Minister Docherty expressed his interest in the situation regarding the energy sector, as well as Kosovo’s perspective in terms of economic development.

Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi informed Minister Docherty about the situation created in Kosovo by the energy crisis that has gripped Europe, as a result of the effects caused by the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The government is taking immediate, mid-term and long-term measures to ease the effects of this crisis and its impact on citizens. The rehabilitation of power plants, which are currently in a damaged state, as well as the increase of capacities in renewable energy, to create sustainability in the future in this sector, are just some of the steps taken.

Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi emphasized that the Energy Strategy of the Republic of Kosovo 2022-2031 was also approved today, at the 113th meeting of the Government.

Minister Docherty offered Britain’s help in supporting the energy sector and achieving targets, particularly in renewable energy. As for economic development, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi informed Minister Docherty about the resources and potentials that our country offers, especially for foreign investors in the IT sector, which is seeing a big boom and has room for accelerated development.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi singled out the submission of Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union yesterday in Prague, the achievements of the government, the reforms so far and the country’s economic and democratic indicators. In the meeting, the developments in the dialogue process were also discussed.

Minister Docherty was accompanied by the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Kosovo, Nicholas Abbott, and the head of the Department for the Western Balkans at the United Kingdom’s Foreign Office, Madeline Knox.
